A Regenerative Vineyard
At Oakencroft Farm & Winery, we see the vineyard as part of a larger, living system—one that includes soil, plants, animals, people, and time. Our approach to wine begins long before harvest, guided by curiosity, observation, and a commitment to working with nature rather than against it.
We grow hybrid grape varieties suited to Virginia’s climate, enrich our soils with compost, and integrate livestock for natural pest management and nutrient cycling. Between the vine rows, a diverse 19-species seed mix supports biodiversity and soil health, while thoughtful canopy management helps maintain balance in the vineyard. Together, these practices reduce our reliance on synthetic inputs and allow the vineyard to express itself more fully.
This space is where we’ll share what that work looks like in practice. You’ll find insights from the vineyard, reflections on regenerative farming, and notes on how these decisions shape the wines we make—fresh, approachable, and rooted in place. As with all things here, this is an evolving process, and we’re learning as we go. We’re glad to share that learning with you.
